Turns out Esben and the Witch are (not so) secretly kind of proggy! There are, like, 4-5 different movements within this song alone. We can see why The xx cosigned them so hard basically out of nowhere. We're not ones to totally just agree with whatever a label writes about their own bands, but Matador talks about how this is kinda uneasy listening, and while there's nothing here that is actually abrasive, it's all still pretty dark. Until they release their album in February, aka the dead of winter, aka let's all lock ourselves in our houses for months and be sad while we listen to this record, you can make do with this song. If you're in New York catch them tonight at the Knitting Factory and then floating around places that are not the US for some of November before a larger tour next year. All those dates are after the jump.
