Kanye and Nicki are fierce and mega now, but Rita Indiana is the MOST MONSTER. The video for her album’s lead single, directed and conceived by Indiana's longtime collaborator Noelia Quintero (see: "La Hora de Volve") is the movie Quentin Tarantino has not made yet that we would really like our boyfriends to take us to, packed by some kind of miracle into less than five minutes. The premise is political ferocity, a blaxplotation riff on living in DR during the 12 years of Doctor Balaguer, real deal beast times. Rita was an author before she got with los Misterios on this album, but if you can’t keep up with her smart Spanish, the clip’s got enough visual momentum to keep you spooked and concerned. Plus an array of gender-bent outfits, each better than the last, till it ends all of sudden with warped tai-chi/salsa choreography and one shot, like a massage and a gut punch as one. El Juidero dropped last week.
