Video: Vampire Weekend Covered the Boss

Having seemingly exhausted Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel's 1980s bodies of work as sources of inspiration, Vampy Weeks may have found the next step in their musical evolution: Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A. For proof, here's a video from a Vancouver show this past weekend of the band covering "I'm Goin' Down" off of Springsteen's 1984 blockbuster. It's nice to see a band that isn't the Arcade Fire or Hold Steady doing justice to the Boss. Of course, this could mean nothing beyond the band finding a song they thought would make for a fun, one-off live cover. Wouldn't it be great, though, if they really were going into a Springsteen phase, and that eventually their whole career could be compartmentalized by which iconic '80s albums they sounded like at any given time? Like their She's So Unusual phase, their Appetite for Destruction phase, their It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back phase?

Or not. Graceland still works. Never mind us.
