So maybe Ladyhawk is not the fastest band in the world. They're definitely not an album-a-year kind of band, and they're potentially not even an album-every-two-years kind of band either, but the records they do end up making stick with us. We've gotten drunk with (and to) their music, laid in bed and stared at the ceiling for awhile while listening to it. Flown all over the world with those Ladyhawk records right there next to us. It's bummer rock made by bummed dudes, and in a lot of ways that's never gonna go away or get corny. The band has been insanely quiet since the release of Shots—drummer Ryan Peters (who also plays on this record) went on tour with Lightning Dust and Bonnie "Prince" Billy and also recorded an album as Sports with Ladyhawk guitarist Darcy Hancock, but both of those things were relatively low key. As is this Duffy and the Doubters project, which is like a Ladyhawk record on speed. Singer Duffy Driediger and a rotating cast of characters grappling with religion and loneliness and drinking and drugs (hey, just like Ladyhawk!) over an all-too-brief nine songs. There are only 300 copies of this bad boy available, and it is totally worth getting because FADER photographer extraordinaire Jason Nocito did all the artwork, including a massive newspaper 'zine thing in the middle.
