This clip right here is why MIA is more compelling than any other pop star around right now: a nationally televised performance invoking both the teengirl copycats of Ladies & Gentleman, the Fabulous Stains and Saddam Hussein's purported posse of doppelgangers to throw his enemies off his scent. Given the narrative surrounding /\/\/\Y/\, it implies that the more she puts herself out there, the less we know about her—and if not, it's at the very least an inherently feminist performance. (What's more powerful than a bunch of punk girls rolling up in a crew? Proof: Dave Letterman looks like a confused dad.) Though we could talk about symbolism all day—the fact remains that this song is a jam, though we're not sure how she got Kurt Loder to be her keyboardist.
