Marina and the Diamonds Live on Morning Becomes Eclectic

For much of "Hollywood," Marina and the Diamonds' first song on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic show, Marina has her curled hand bobbing just below her neck, like a choral instructor teasing out tones across the musical staff. And then, when she sings about touching down, she pulls back and swoops down her open palm like a little plane. She must talk with her bands because she's so extra focused on the huge scale that she must hit. When she sings "Mowgli's Road," her hands are firm on her hips for the beginning "cuckoo." Her brain must bob between her vocal chords and her joints, puppeteering the perfect pitch. Hard to make so many things so exact simultaneously, it's a wonder she can do it so early in the AM.
