On a basic level, this is a pretty bare bones pop song with a trill buzzsaw whine over the top. But it's so much more fun to listen to than that, which is why Weekend—who barely have any songs out so far—have repeatedly been entertaining us. It's like they took a now classic song structure: simple riff, some lyrics we can kinda sorta hear but can definitely hum along to and a textured guitar solo and blew it wide open. In the hands of most bands it might come off twee, but these dudes have managed to make it consistently aggressive in a completely non-violent way. You know how there's that scene in High Fidelity where John Cusack is standing in the rain an yelling at his girl and calling her from the payphone (haha payphones) and it's obvious he's all bummed and in love, but also its kind of intense and a little jarring? That is Weekend's whole vibe. Their new split with Young Prisms is out soon on Transparent.
