This sounds like Bernard Sumner after a wisdom tooth extraction, submerged pop sheen under the influence of several painkillers and maybe an ill-advised half glass of wine. Which is not to say it's druggy—the melodies are too spry, the beats too taut—but it's got a tipsy kind of feeling, like weaving down a hallway, elated for no reason. Elite Gymnastics are from Minneapolis, so clearly relate to the '80s beachmuffins on the above cover art. Also, they have a picture of our most recent Kanye cover smoking a bong (vaporizer?) on their MySpace. So maybe it actually is druggy.
