The not-so-secret Dipset secret is that they seem like they're kind of MPC nerds. Not that Dipset specifically are killing it at beatmaking, but they seem really impressed by musicians who can do flashy shit. Like if they were much older and into guitars, they'd be the guys that lurked at Guitar Center just so they could see old dudes in tapered jeans cover Jimi Hendrix songs on guitars with flames on them. Case in point: they had A-Trak create a beat live, and they work with AraabMuzik, who hunches over the drum pads like he's performing heart surgery. Listening to "Throw It Up," which comes from yet another Cam'ron mixtape, AraabMuzik's beat feels like the kind of thing The Heatmakerz were producing by the pound just a few years ago—which is awesome, and weird to think about after you watch this video of him playing the MPC live in a mostly empty club with old people standing really close while staring vacantly.
