Old heads will choke on their balls when we say this, but Freddie Gibbs' "Ghetto" and its video remind us of this other "Ghetto." His voice is so reminiscent of classic ’80s and early ’90s East Coast dudes like Ed OG, OC and Rakim and the beat as much Pete Rock as anything brand new, that it almost obscures why he's actually singularly great. Gibbs may have that throwback flow, but his Midwest drawl and penchant for speed rhymes are what make us take notice.
