When we went to speak with John Maclean, also known as The Juan Maclean, about the house music mix he made for the venerable DJ-Kicks series (available now!), it was the clearest and sunniest day New York had seen in 2010. After walking through the flower district and embracing the approaching springtime, we met with Maclean on the roof of his hotel to absorb the warmth of the day. But in the name of clear audio, we decided to shoot inside, instead placing him in front of a mural of torrential rain while he discussed being a vinyl-only DJ and his neverending quest for perfection. Then we went out into the light and Maclean disappeared back into his hotel room, an elusive man we can only one day hope to grasp.
