Video: Family Band, “Children”

April 26, 2010

When we first started hearing Family Band's music in its early demo form, it became clear that they were more than just a another New York band that fetishized nature and the woods. Spending as much time as they possibly could in a cabin they built upstate, the music—especially Kim Krans' lyrics—grappled with the wide-open uncertainty of life that can only come from standing on a porch and staring out at vast rows of dark trees in complete silence. In short, it's not the happiest music, and we wouldn't expect it to be. To celebrate the release of their debut LP Miller Path, the band put together a video for "Children," featuring Krans, husband/band member Jonny Ollsin, and a bunch of others wandering across a desolate snowy landscape before dancing in front of a fire. It's a haunting video, but it blends perfectly with the aesthetic Family Band have been working toward for the last few years. Watch it up above, and buy Miller Path on vinyl from the band right here. (via Stereogum)
