Cardon Copy, the design project of recent School of Visual Arts grad Cardon Webb, replaces the looseleaf, taped and stapled signs on corkboards and telephone poles around New York City with fancy, conceptual graphic treatments: a hastily scrawled plea for lost kitten assistance becomes a vintage dancehall poster, shady apartment vacancies a 3-D zine cover. In all honesty, some of Webb's replacements actually make it really difficult to figure out what the cat/apartment/pimple device is all about, but they are definitely better looking, kind of like that time in 5th grade when Becky stuffed three boxes of Kleenex in her bra. Here's Webb's manifesto:
CARDON COPY, TAKES THE VERNACULAR OF SELF-DISTRIBUTED FLIERS AND TEAR-OFFS WE HAVE ALL SEEN IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS. IT INVOLVES HIJACKING THESE UNCONSIDERED FLIERS AND REDESIGNING THEM, OVER POWERING THEIR MESSAGE WITH A NEW VISUAL LANGUAGE. I THEN REPLACE THE ORIGINAL WITH THE REDESIGN IN ITS AUTHENTIC ENVIRONMENT.
