It's not hard to imagine a life that revolves around frothy surf and an old beat up VW that bumpily carries us there, blasting good tunes from its scratchy stereo and our naked feet dangling out the window. These are some of the images that surfer Patrick Trefz conjures in his book Thread, a collection of aquatic and landlocked images that evoke the spirit of surf culture. Thread began as a film project shot on 8 and 16mm and evolved into a collage of still frames and personal photographs taken by Trefz while wandering the world's oceans. With imagery from both displaced city surfers and seaside community life, he finds the atmospheric snapshots undoubtedly lead back to the surf and his board.
