By our count, Kurt Vile has been at least partially responsible for two of the more cohesive and enjoyable albums we've heard in the last 8-12 months: War on Drugs' constantly-in-rotation Wagonwheel Blues and God Is Saying This To You (Mexican Summer, May). It could've easily been a collection of snippets and half-finished four track experiments cobbled together for die-hards, but instead it's a hazy, intimate and brief album that really has its shit together. All we need now is for Vile to put out a star-studded folk long-player that people will hate on for like 20 years before it becomes the touchstone for a new generation of artists, kinda like this.
