Ever since they got posted up yesterday we've been playing these live Wild Yaks songs on our computers because the audio quality is relatively good and we like things that sound like they were really fun. It's been pointed out that people might not like these songs because they "don't like being yelled at when they are listening to music," but that's not the point. Wild Yaks are the kind of band you yell with. They repeat things often and clearly, and really that's enough. Luckily Wild Yaks also make songs that are good, making us want to yell along, and then the saxophone comes in and we ask ourselves why more rock bands don't utilize it. The answer is—as usual—that it usually doesn't work and sounds funny or maybe like there is an extra person in the band like that guy in The Mighty Mighty Bosstones who ran in place on stage. But it works here, and so does the harmonica, so we keep listening. Chances are Wild Yaks are playing somewhere in New York nearly any day that you feel like seeing them, so check their MySpace for dates and also to listen to the live songs we were just talking about.
