Watch James Van Der Beek Play Diplo In The Trailer For Their New Spoof Comedy Series
What Would Diplo Do? premieres on August 3.
The first trailer for Viceland's What Would Diplo Do? has landed online. The comedy show is written, and executive produced by James Van Der Beek, who also plays Diplo. A six episode run of the show was ordered following a 2016 short in which Van Der Beek played a larger-than-life version of the DJ and producer.
Described as "Louie meets WorldStar HipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap," What Would Diplo Do?'s trailer is filled with shots of the fictional Diplo playing to huge crowds while being dismissed and mocked by his team. "You're like an oven," one exectuive tells him. "But it only bakes bad ideas." Another clip sees him trying to "find new sounds" by putting a violin in a blender and recording the sound.
The show is co-executive produced by Diplo and "shepherded" by Oscar-winning filmmaker Spike Jonze. Check out the trailer above.
