Nike's new range of women's plus size athletic fashions can now be purchased in stores and online. Nike's activewear line now come in sizes from 1X to 3X, and the Pro Rival and Hero bras sizes have been pushed up to 38E. In total, 44 items are available in plus sizes, including running pants, tops, and athleisure, according to Buzzfeed.
In a statement obtained by Paper Mag, the company wrote: "Nike recognizes that women are stronger, bolder and more outspoken than ever. In today's world, sport is no longer something that she does, it's who she is. The days where we have to add 'female' before 'athlete' are over. She is an athlete, period. And having helped fuel this cultural shift, we celebrate these athletes' diversity, from ethnicity to body shape."
In July 2016, Nike posted a photo of plus size model Paloma Elsesser in a sports bra. It received a lot of positive attention, as well as requests for clothing that better fit bigger bodies.
