Barbie Announces Special Misty Copeland Doll As Part Of Sheroes Series

This morning on Good Morning America, boundary breaking ballerina Misty Copeland announced the release of her self-inspired Barbie doll. The dancer had a large hand in the creation of the doll whose vibrant garments were influenced by Copeland's Firebird costume she wore in her debut performance as the American Ballet Theatre's first African-American principal ballerina. As a symbol of representation for young girls, the doll is also a part of Mattel's Barbie Sheroes program, a dedication to women like Zendaya, Ava Duvernay and Trisha Yearwood, who devote their livelihoods to pushing limits and creating platforms for diversity.
In a press release, Copeland said, "I always dreamed of becoming an ABT ballerina and through Barbie I was able to play out those dreams early on. It's an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll."
