The announcement, shared on bandleader Florence Welch’s Instagram, follows a series of social media posts that appeared to hint at a witch-themed project coming in October, including a picture of IDLES guitarist Mark Bowen, the National‘s Aaron Dessner, and Mitski.

Fans’ speculations increased on August 11, when Welch posted a video of herself wearing a red dress as she digs a hole and lets out a horror film-ready scream.

Numerous versions of the album are available for pre-order on the band’s website. According to the site, the project will have 12 songs, but additional details have yet to be revealed.

In 2024, Welch featured on Taylor Swift’s album The Tortured Poets Department. The band also covered Walter Kent and Nat Burton’s “(There’ll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover” for the Jack Antonoff-produced soundtrack to the show The New Look. This year, Welch worked with The Weeknd on the song “Reflections Laughing” from his Hurry Up Tomorrow album.
