Cardi B is being sued by an Ohio woman over an incident in Las Vegas in which the rapper threw a microphone, Rolling Stone reports. The Jane Doe plaintiff filed a 16-page complaint on Monday in Clark County, Nevada, in which she claimed Cardi caused her “severe emotional distress, shock, humiliation, and physical injury.” She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

Video footage of the 2023 moment went viral with Cardi seemingly retaliating when a drink was spilled over her by throwing her mircophone towards a member of the audience during a live performance. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation at the time but did not press charges.

In her complaint, the plaintiff states that the rapper "forcefully" threw the mic after having “verbally requested that the audience splash her with water” on what was a hot day at the Drai’s Beach Club

Per the lawsuit, Cardi “implicitly” asked for “light splashing from drinks” and poured water from a bottle over herself. Other audience members followed, leading to the plaintiff pouring "a small portion" of her drink in the direction of the stage. “In apparent anger and without warning,” Cardi then “aggressively and intentionally launched” her microphone “directly” at Jane Doe, injuring her in the process.

Shortly after the incident the microphone was put up for auction by its owner, an event that “further publicized the incident and exacerbated plaintiff’s emotional distress.”

A representative for Cardi B, who recently confirmed details of a new studio album, was not immediately available for comment.
