SZA says she will release a new project before the end of 2024
She confirmed plans for new music while taking part in Kai Cenat’s Mafiathon 2 event.
SZA has seemingly confirmed that she plans to release a new album very soon. She appeared alongside Lizzo as a guest on Kai Cenat's Mafiathon 2 livestream this past weekend and let slip to the Twitch streamer that she has a "whole new project" ready to go. When Cenat asked SZA when it would be released she told him to expect to hear something "before the year is over."
Any late-2024 release would be in keeping with SZA's previous album, SOS, which arrived in December of 2022.
In a recent interview with British Vogue, SZA said she had to projects in development; a deluxe edition of SOS and her third studio album, Lana. It remains unclear if she was referring to one, or both, of these titles with Cenat.
"I think I am making music from a more beautiful place. From a more possible place versus a more angsty place,” she told the publication. “I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s shit that happened to me. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.”
SZA makes two appearances on GNX, the new album from her former TDE label-mate Kendrick Lamar. She contributed vocals to "luther" and "gloria" on the album, which was dropped as a surprise release on Friday, November 22.
