Azealia Banks says she’s voting for Donald Trump in 2024
“He’s just fucking funny,” Banks said in a new interview with The Standard.
Azealia Banks has weighed in on the 2024 election in an interview with The Standard, saying that she’ll be casting her vote for former President Donald Trump (assuming he wins the Republican nomination, as is widely expected).
“He’s just fucking funny,” Banks told the magazine, expressing admiration for his ability to avoid accountability. “He’s been through how many bankruptcies? How many wives? How many television shows? Seriously, nothing can take him down.”
Banks dismissed President Joe Biden’s performance, calling his continued stay in the White House “elder abuse.” When asked if she had reservations about Trump being near “the nuclear button” again, Banks said, “Well, he didn’t press it the first time… You never know, Biden might hit the wrong shit on the antennae and blow the whole thing up.”
She also walked back her previous endorsement of Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who is currently challenging Trump for the Republican nomination. According to the profile’s author (and Standard owner) Evgeny Lebedev, Banks took issue with DeSantis’ “attacks on drag culture [and] his quarrel with Disney.” Both of these were in full swing around the time Banks announced her support, but she appears to have changed her mind. “Seriously, that’s the guy who’s running for president? The guy who wants to argue with Mickey Mouse? Mm. Okay.”
A 2024 victory for Trump would likely mean one of the most repressive, right-wing governments in modern American history. He has promised to end gender-affirming care for minors, expand domestic fossil fuel production, and build massive camps to house individuals who are awaiting deportation.
Elsewhere, Banks throws another prominent Trump supporter, Kanye West, under the bus for his “White Lives Matter” shirts debuted at Paris Fashion Week in 2022. Engaging in deliberately shocking behavior for attention will only lead to one’s downfall, Banks insists: “You deserve to reap what you sow.”
