billy woods and Kenny Segal link up for “Soft Landing”
Their collaborative album, Maps, is out this Friday.
billy woods and Kenny Segal have shared the final single from their upcoming album, Maps, which is due this Friday, May 5, via the Brooklyn rapper's imprint Backwoodz Studioz. "Soft Landing" follows the release of the LP's lead single "FaceTime" featuring Samuel T. Herring which dropped last month.
Segal's guitar-driven beat provides a calming atmosphere for woods' sonic streams of consciousness that analyzes the occasional mundanity of everyday life ("It ruins the whole day when my baby mother mad at me / Spliff could prolly jump your car battery") while also acknowledging its true hardships ("Maybe suicidal thoughts was the everyday struggle / For a brief, sweet, moment it was nothing in the thought bubble"). The hook, however, provides an optimistic outlook, interpolating Nina Simone's iconic lyrics from "Feeling Good." Together, billy woods and Kenny Segal capture the album's comforting theme of being home, wherever that may be.
