IDK shares video for new song “Mr. Police”
The Maryland rapper’s new album F65 is out on May 5.
IDK sought to make "an album where people can dance to real shit" with his 2022 project Simple., a collaboration with Montreal producer Kaytranada (the project, ended up being one of our favorite albums of the year). For his new single "Mr. Police," a track from his upcoming album F65, IDK turns the tempo down for a Steve Wonder-indebted ballad lamenting the police violence epidemic. It's quite beautiful and enraging all at once.
The music video, streaming above, is appropriately unflinching in its recreation of the disturbing body cam footage of Black men arrested by white cops. Be warned if that kind of video is triggering. “We want to create awareness in order to prompt dialogue and potentially change the narrative around law enforcement misconduct," IDK said in a press statement. "Not all police officers are bad. This is to shine a light on the ones that are.”
