Playboi Carti charged with felony aggravated assault after allegedly choking pregnant girlfriend
The rapper’s attorney called his client “falsely accused” in a statement.
Playboi Carti faces two charges including felony aggravated assault stemming from a December incident where the rapper (whose legal name is Jordan Terrell Carter) allegedly choked his pregnant girlfriend, according to a TMZ report published today (February 14). Online records reviewed by The FADER show that he is also charged with preventing a person from making an emergency telephone call.
Per the arrest affidavit obtained by TMZ, the alleged assault stemmed from a dispute over a paternity test. An argument ensued, and Carti allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat and choked her. She says she tried to escape to her car and call the police when Carti dragged her from the vehicle and covered her mouth with his hand. The alleged victim has injuries to her neck, back, and chest, TMZ reports, and told police that she thought she was going to die as she was being choked.
Brian Steele, Carti's attorney, issued the following statement to The FADER: "Mr. Carter was falsely accused. Pursuant to my communications with the Fulton County District Attorney‘s Office, this case will be dismissed without any prosecution or litigation."
