Song You Need: Ice Spice’s “Munch (Feelin’ U)” is the defiant sound of moving on
The Bronx rapper mixes self-belief with loathing on her breakout single.
The FADER’s “Songs You Need” are the tracks we can’t stop playing. Check back every day for new music and follow along on our Spotify playlist.
Bronx drill rapper Ice Spice raps with such an effortless confidence that it's hard not to feel boosted up just by listening. On new song "Munch (Feelin’ U)" she flexes for two minutes straight, offering up quotable lines ("You know my body, I do it with ease") and outsized comic imagery ("I'm walkin' past him, he sniffin' my breeze").
The thinly-veiled disgust for munches everywhere runs through her delivery, giving an ego-lifting song a belligerent undertone. You might have never been called a munch before, or even know what one is, but Ice Spice will make sure you change all your munch-like behavior to avoid it in future.
In the past few weeks Ice Spice has shared screenshots of texts from Drake, but Ice Spice doesn't feel like someone in need of an A-list co-sign. She's riding her own wave, bringing some much-needed variety to the Bronx drill scene along the way. Don't bet against her going all the way. As she says: "Bitch, I'm a baddie I get what I want."
