Foo Fighters announce special guests for first Taylor Hawkins tribute show
Liam Gallagher, Mark Ronson, Dave Chappelle, and Queen’s Brian May will be on the bill at the band’s upcoming London gig.
Foo Fighters and Taylor Hawkins' family have announced the first set of names who will join them for a tribute concert in London this September. The Wembley Stadium show is one of two tribute shows for the band's late drummer, who passed away earlier this year, age 50.
Joining Foo Fighters at Wembley on September 3 will be Liam Gallagher, QOTSA's Josh Homme, Chrissie Hynde, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, Supergrass, and Mark Ronson. Comedian Dave Chappelle is billed as a special guest. Other names on the bill include Jane’s Addiction’s Chris Chaney, the Police’s Stewart Copeland, Omar Hakim, Rufus Taylor, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Hawkins' own cover band Chevy Metal.
A second tribute concert will take place at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum on September 27. The line-up for that show remains TBC. The band will also reveal details of the charities set to benefit from the two dates.
Hawkins died on March 25, age 50. The drummer was on tour with Foo Fighters at the time, with the band subsequently pulling all live dates in response to the loss. A toxicology report found opioids and anti-depressants in his system at the time of his death, though an official cause of death is still to be confirmed.
