Paramore share studio update ahead of sixth album
The band are hard at work on the follow-up to 2017’s After Laughter.
There might be a lot of bad news around in 2022 but the good news is that Paramore are working on a new album, their first in almost five years. The band taken a break from ther new album sessions to email some progress notes to Rolling Stone, offering up the first hints of what to expect from the follow-up to 2017’s After Laughter.
“We wrote and tracked something we loved and it actually surprised us,” Hayley Williams is quoted as saying. “I’m always waiting for the moment for us to know we’re onto something new and we’re not just rehashing the same shit. It’s not about it feeling like a hit so much as it’s a scary, exciting feeling that you’re treading uncharted waters. It keeps you curious. We got to feel that feeling early on this time.”
The band began making in the album "a couple of months ago" but have since moved operations to California. Speaking about the sound of the new music, the band stated that they were looking to their early influences for inspiration but aren't exactly shaping up to release “comeback ‘emo’ record.” Instead, according to Williams, expect "1) More emphasis back on the guitar, and 2) Zac (Farro) should go as Animal as he wants with drum takes."
In 2020 Williams shared her debut solo effort, FLOWERS for VASES/ descansos. Last year the group were given as a songwriter credit on Olivia Rodrigo's "Good 4 U," owing to its perceived similarities to their "Misery Business."
