Young launches archival platform with rare material from The xx, FKA Twigs, and more

Young, the independent label once known as Young Turks, has launched online platform Young Then. The digital archive is to be used as a home for the history of the label, which is home to artists including The xx, Sampha, and FKA Twigs, as well as a repository for future work.

A press release states that Young Then "aims to preserve and make visible that which is ordinarily lost. For the public, then, the airlock has been opened and an invitation to step back in time extended. And for the label, it’s an opportunity, a chance to restore, remaster and [re]publish items that have been lost or missed amidst the constant pressure to progress into the future."

The platform launches today, November 3, and includes never-before-released material including an xx live documentary,

Available on launch are:

A new documentary by Jamie-James Medina on The xx’s NYC Armory shows of 2014.

A vinyl reissue of Sampha and Jessie Ware’s 2011 collaboration "Valentine."

Photos and video performances by FKA twigs and Caroline Polachek from a 2013 NYE festival in Tulum, Mexico.

New recordings of Koreless performing "Sun" and "Never" with a string quintet at BBC’s Maida Vale in 2013.

A new film that captures the 2019 iteration of the ongoing collaboration between Young and Sharon Eyal’s dance company L-E-V.

The mixes that made Jamie xx’s In Colour: the BBC 6 mixes that helped shape his solo album, brought together for the first time.
