SURF GANG take it back to school in the “Woah” video
The N.Y.C. collective’s new project SGV1 is out now.
I'll always have a soft spot for rap groups continuing to build on cloud rap's legacy, and SURF GANG are one of the most intriguing out there. The New York City group share addled, grim raps a la Goth Money Records over beats that almost exclusively sound sourced from new age and ambient compilations. Fresh off releasing their new tape SGV1, SURF GANG returns today with a new video for "WOAH," premiering today on The FADER. The clip depicts the kind of show you've been missing: sweaty, packed shoulder-to-shoulder around a fleet of schoolbuses, and with impromptu energy. Before you ask: yes, the police did shut down the show, but not before SURF GANG showed a couple hundred people why they're worth paying attention to.
