Secretly Group employees plan to unionize
The group cited grievances including poor wages and a lack of work-life balance.
Employees at indie music company Secretly Group have announced their plan to unionize alongside the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU Local 174). The Secretly Group Union includes workers from Secretly Canadian, Jagjaguwar, Dead Oceans, Ghostly International, Numero Group, Secretly Distribution, and Secretly Publishing.
In an official statement posted on social media, Secretly Group Union outlined their reasons for organizing. Poor wages and benefits, a lack of work/life balance and boundaries, professional gatekeeping, and the company's "performative allyship" with respect to its most marginalized staff all contributed to the decision. "Collective bargaining is the most constructive, democratic, and intersectional way to solve these issues," the statement reads. "Our goal is to spotlight the rights of our staff and the health of our workplace."
