Watch Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle’s heartwarming Verzuz battle
The soul legends proved an unstoppable pair.
If you have a live music fan's spirit, the pandemic's closure of concerts has been tough to bear, which is why Verzuz has been such an oasis in this stage-less desert. Last night's show was one for the books: Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle, two of soul music's greatest living champions, came together for an evening of good vibes and classic music.
The genteel atmosphere was a slight departure from last week's show with Brandy and Monica, the R&B artists who may have squashed their longstanding beef yet still seemed a ways off from becoming as naturally friendly as Knight and LaBelle. The artists ran through their decades-long catalogs of hits, chatted about their lives and histories between songs, and were even joined by Dionne Warwick for a finale performance of “That’s What Friends Are For,” Warwick's No.1 hit from 1986, and "Superwoman." If you were lucky enough to watch this one with your parents, I'm quite jealous. Watch the whole thing above.
