Kendrick Lamar soundtracks Nike’s new Kobe Bryant tribute ad
Kendrick Lamar discusses Kobe’s legacy of pushing others to “be better” in the new ad.
Nike has released a new advertisement paying tribute to the late basketball star Kobe Bryant, who died earlier this year in a helicopter crash and whose 42nd birthday would have been today (August 23). The ad features a spoken word track by Kendrick Lamar which centres on Kobe’s legacy as a star who pushed others to “be better.” Watch the advertisement above.
Kobe died in January of this year. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna also died in the crash. In the wake of his death, musicians including Dr. Dre, Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West, and Beyoncé paid tribute to the star. The Grammys also staged a tribute to him, featuring Alicia Keys and Boyz II Men performing “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday.”
