Sufjan Stevens’ “Video Game” music video enlists “Renegade” dance creator Jalaiah Harmon
His new album The Ascension is out September 25.
Indie music godhead Sufjan Stevens returns with his eighth studio album The Ascension on September 25, just in time for older millennials to bring their flannels out of storage. The music video for Stevens' new song "Video Game" is pure Gen Z-bait though: Jalaiah Harmon, 14-year-old creator of the TikTok dance phenomenon "The Renegade," showcases some brand new moves in a Tron-inspired environment. It's a very cool video from Nicole Ginelli, and it's not tough to imagine Stevens' electro-poppy anthem of quiet resistance going viral thanks to Harmon's choreography. What a concept.
“My objective for this album was simple," Stevens said in a press statement, "interrogate the world around you. Question anything that doesn’t hold water. Exterminate all bullshit. Be part of the solution or get out of the way. Keep it real. Keep it true. Keep it simple. Keep it moving.”
The Ascension, which Stevens says is "a lush, editorial pop album," is out September 25 via Asthmatic Kitty.
