U.K. post-punk band Squid share fervent new song “Sludge”

Listen to the British band’s first single on new label Warp.

British band Squid have quietly been letting their freak flag fly over the past 18 months, releasing a series of twitchy and explosive songs including "The Cleaner" and "Houseplants." Today, March 24, they return with news of a brand new song and their arrival on iconic electronic label Warp.

"Sludge" began its life during a soundcheck before Squid opened for post-punk pioneers Wire in 2019 and the nervous energy of that era of music is present in the jerky time-signatures and Ollie Judge's manic vocals. Judge, who also plays drums in Squid, ends "Sludge" by repeating the mantra "Scrape my teeth out on the floor, I don't want any more." Its quite an image.

Squid, like all musicians, have had their touring plans upended by the coronavirus outbreak but you can see a list of all their still-scheduled live dates here. Check out "Sludge" below.
