Zebra Katz finds love in the club on “UPP”
The Florida rapper ends up with an unexpected meeting with the love interest’s mother.
Zebra Katz has unlocked the romantic potential of a sweaty night club where someone could find the perfect someone. His newest single "UPP," produced by himself, Torus, and Br83the, is a mix of baile-funk and Miami bass while Katz softly whispers, "I said baby, you should come over here and thump." He then ends the song with a few lines of dialog taken out of a conversation with the guy he ends up going home with, commenting on how nice the house is and meeting his mother. And of course, it ends with him accepting some champagne.
In an email, Katz detailed the journey this song took from almost 10 years ago: "'UPP' is a re-imagined, extended, and finished version of one of the first tracks I wrote and produced on GarageBand. I wanted to reapproach the track implementing the sonic growth I've had since it was originally written in 2010. I choose to include an up-close or ASMR inspired vocal that might feel as if someone was whispering (sweet nothings) into your ear inside a dark and crowded club."
"UPP" will be on his upcoming debut album LESS IS MOOR due out March 20.
