Anik Khan expresses the contradictions of immigrant life in his “Regardless” video
The Bengali artist is joined by fellow Queens singer Robin Dey.
After two years of battling for his green card and turning down shows in other countries while he waited, Anik Khan is ready to face the world again with his unique blend of hip-hop, afrobeat, and Bengali music. His new song, "Regardless," produced by ClickNPress is the perfect reintroduction.
The Priya Minhas-directed video and Khan's lyrics reflect the contradictions of immigrant life — being invisible and hypervisible at the same time. The video opens with his arrest, but it switches to Khan camouflaged by his crew, including singer Robin Dey, before he moves low-key through Queens like a mob boss. He gets his bars off too: "No, my visa denied but to your girl, I'm the flyest," "Her sari made of solid gold and I come from the sand."
"Regardless" is taken from Khan's upcoming double EP DENIED / APPROVED, which will be available in April. You can catch Khan in Atlanta as a part of Sango's Quiet Storm tour on 2/27 at Variety Playhouse.
