10 songs you need in your life this week
Tracks we love right now, in no particular order.
Each week, The FADER staff rounds up the songs we can't get enough of. Here they are, in no particular order.
"Triumph" — J Hus
J Hus's new album Big Conspiracy is number one the U.K. charts this week. The slick-as-hell, Jae5-produced cut, "Triumph," is an elite example of why, bound to get some bad men moving in silence.
"People, I've been sad" — Christine and the Queens
Nobody understands how to harness the power in sadness quite like Christine and The Queens does. Her new standalone track is galvanic in its execution, a throbbing answer to when seasonal depression passes its season.
"foolssong" — Destroyer
The grand finale of Destroyer's ambitious new album Have We Met is a "waltz-time lullaby... that never worked out" when Dan Bejar initially wrote it for his lauded 2011 LP, Kaputt. Suffice to say, it was well worth the nine year delay.
"Get Your Wish" — Porter Robinson
The first offering from Porter Robinson's sophomore album Nurture, titled "Get Your Wish," is the sound of six years of writers block splitting open and making way for boundless possibility.
"Set It Up (ft. Trina)" — Kamaiyah
Kamaiyah's forthcoming project Got It Made has been four years in the making. She kicks it all off with "Set It Up," which has her linking with Trina for a retribution of bombastic proportions.
"Your Reply" — Frances Quinlan
Frances Quinlan can build a narrative like a Matryoshka doll: on "Your Reply," she zooms out from notes in the margins of a book, to the author of that book, to the author of a text she'll never receive.
"Physical" — Dua Lipa
"Physical" marks Dua Lipa's purest pop statement yet, with a technicolored hook that both soars and sticks. Bonus points for any track that can actually make us want to get moving amid a particularly drab February.
"Alucinao (ft. Estado Unido and FKA twigs) " — Against All Logic
Nicolas Jaar revisited his Against All Logic project last week with two new tracks. The first, the cavernous "Alucinao," finds him reuniting with FKA twigs, whose voice is pitched down to an indecipherable degree. The result is expectedly scrumptious.
"Hop Out" — 10K.Caash
The easy standout of 10K.Caash's newly released mixtape Planet Swajurr is just two and a half minutes of the Texas charmer wilding out over a meaty bass riff. What could be more fun than that?
"Headaches" — Raveena
Love actually isn't dead, at least not according to Raveena. Her latest, "Headaches," hones in on the moment right before it, a dumbfounded ceiling-staring groove that might actually stir some optimism up ahead of Valentines Day.
