“Old Town Road (Remix)” has won a CMA award for Musical Event of the Year, Uproxx reports. The award goes to Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, whose “34 Ghosts IV” was sampled by YoungKio for the “Old Town Road” beat. This notable embrace from the Country Music Association comes after Billboard removed the hit song from its country music charts, telling Rolling Stone, "upon further review, it was determined that 'Old Town Road' by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard's country charts. When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While 'Old Town Road' incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today's country music to chart in its current version."
