Dr. Dre to receive honorary Grammy for production work
Dre will be honored at a Los Angeles event in January.
Dr. Dre will receive an honorary Grammy for his services to music and production, Billboard reports. Dre will receive the honor from the Producers & Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy on January 22 at Village Studios in Los Angeles. The event takes place four days before the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for January 26, 2020, at the Staples Center.
Dre's production discography speaks for itself, starting from his days working with World Class Wreckin' Cru in the 1980s and onto N.W.A. He has also famously worked with Eminem, Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and Mary J. Blige. In more recent times he has mentored and worked with both Kendrick Lamar and Anderson .Paak.
Compton, Dre's most recent album, was released in 2015. Early last year he said he was working on new material for the long-awaited Detox, though that album remains unreleased over 18 months later. In 2017 he released a new song, "Gunfire," as part of the HBO documentary series The Defiant Ones.
