Kurt Cobain’s MTV Unplugged cardigan sold for $334,000
“The stains are still there. There’s even cigarettes burns that you can see on the sweater.”
The olive green cardigan worn by Kurt Cobain during Nirvana's MTV Unplugged concert recently sold for $334,000 at Julien's Auctions, officially making it the most expensive sweater sold at auction, according to Rolling Stone.
The sweater, described as "a blend of acrylic, mohair, and Lycra with five-button closure (one button absent), with two exterior pockets, a burn hole and discoloration near left pocket and discoloration on the right pocket," previously sold for $137,500 back in November 2015. Now, the final sale price is more than double that.
“It’s very important that we don’t wash it,” Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions told Rolling Stone, going on to note that "the stains are still there. There’s even cigarette burns that you can see on the sweater."
In addition to the sweater, Cobain's custom-built Fender Mustang guitar also sold at the auction for $340,000, along with a handwritten letter from Courtney Love explaining it was among the Nirvana frontman's favorite.
