Watch Brittany Howard’s scorching Tiny Desk Concert
Four songs from her debut solo album Jaime got the live treatment.
If, like me, you missed Brittany Howard's 2019 tour behind her excellent solo album Jaime, prepare to kick yourself hard after watching four of its songs performed live for NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series. The frontwoman of Alabama Shakes performs with an eight-person band dressed in red and black, and gives a couple of insights into her songwriting — "Georgia" is about being "a little young, black, gay girl having a crush on an older black girl and not knowing what to say and how I was feeling," and "Baby" is about the doldrums of a romantic relationship. "I've always wanted to write songs like these," she says, and doesn't waste a note. Watch above and stream Jaime below.
