Queen Latifah to receive medal from Harvard for contribution to black culture

Queen Latifah will be honored by Harvard University for her contributions to black history and culture, as Pitchfork points out. The iconic New Jersey rapper will receive the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal along with six other recipients on October 22nd, at the university’s Hutchins Center for African and African American research. The medal, which was named after Du Bois, a scholar, writer and civil rights activist who was the first black student to earn a doctorate from Harvard, has previously been awarded to Dave Chapelle, Nas, LL Cool J, Ava DuVernay, Pam Grier and more. Earlier this year, Latifah performed with Fetty Wap, Naughty By Nature, Redman and Wyclef Jean at the MTV Video Music Awards in a massive honoring New Jersey rap. Relive that performance here.
