Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard goes solo on new single “History Repeats”
The first cut from her forthcoming album, Jaime.
Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard has emerged with her debut solo single, "History Repeats." The deeply funky and commanding track is the first offering from her upcoming album, Jaime, named after Howard's late sister: “The title is in memoriam, and she definitely did shape me as a human being," she wrote in a statement. "But, the record is not about her. It’s about me. I’m pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own."
Jaime marks Howard's first project since Alabama Shakes' last album Sound & Color, which dropped back in 2015. It will feature contributions from Robert Glasper, Nate Smith, and Alabama Shakes bassist Zac Cockrell. The record is due out September 20 via ATO Records, but ahead of that, Howard is heading out on a North American tour. Check out all the dates, and stream "History Repeats," below.
