Listen to Nasty Cherry’s sleek new single “What Do You Like In Me?”
The Charli XCX-conceptualised band’s “What Do You Like In Me?” is just as much of a winner as the first Nasty Cherry single.
Earlier this year, Nasty Cherry — the Josie & the Pussycats-style power-pop band conceptualised and A&R’d by Charli XCX — released their brash, fiery debut single “Win,” a bratty and brilliant introduction to the Los Angeles four-piece. Now, the band have released their second single, “What Do You Like In Me?”, and while it’s a pretty big departure from the squeaky-clean guitars of their debut, it’s just as much of a winner.
Produced by French trio Planet 1999, “What Do You Like In Me?” finds lead singer Gabbriette's vocals drifting over washed out pop-shoegaze production. It feels like a spiritual sibling to Sky Ferreira’s still-great “Everything Is Embarrassing” — a mumbled paean to crushing hard and feeling completely stupid for it.
The song also comes with a video directed by Gabbriette and Indiana Piorek. “Indiana and I wanted to create a world that felt familiar and timeless and let the song speak for itself,” Gabbriette says of the track. “We used all of our own clothes and “props.”” Watch “What Do You Like In Me?” below.
