Spotify ads tease possible release date for Childish Gambino’s Guava Island
Just in time for his headlining set at Coachella.
Last August, Donald Glover and Rihanna were spotted in Havana filming a new project with Hiro Murai, the director of Atlanta and the "This Is America" video. That project, Guava Island, was later revealed to be a film starring Glover and Fenty alongside Letita Wright and Nonso Anozie. There haven't been too many details about the film since then, but on Friday, a new ad popped up on Spotify teasing the project.
The 30-second advertisement features a bit of soft, acoustic material from Gambino. Near the end of the audio snippet, he says "see you at the show, everyone." The artwork, adorned with Matisse-esque flora, teases a release date of Saturday, April 13— the night of his first Coachella set. The ads link back to Spotify's Rap Caviar playlist, leading fans to speculate that Guava Island may be a visual album accompanied by a film. Regardless, it seems as though all will be revealed next weekend.
