Future didn’t show up for their Tiny Desk Concert so Zaytoven did it solo
Watch Zaytoven play live Beast Mode instrumentals with a flautist.
NPR's Tiny Desk Concert is the place where artists go to perform their songs in an intimate environment surrounded by office furniture. It's a well established spot and no doubt the NPR staff were excited when they booked Future and Zaytoven to perform on the same day as the release of his latest album, The Wizrd, back in January. There was only one snag, Future was a no-show on the day of shooting.
Never fear, in times of crisis true heroes step up to the plate. That day's hero was Zaytoven who, alongside his bandmates, stepped into the void and delivered a three-song set of live trap instrumentals. As NPR writer Rodney Carmichael puts it, "After several hours of waiting, with the band all warmed up and ready, word came that Future would be a no-show. So, to our thrill, Zaytoven redeemed the occasion with his own Tiny Desk concert."
Flute player Elena didn't get to flex on "Mask Off" but she did deliver on "Lay Up," one of two Beast Mode tracks in the set alongside "Peacoat." Zaytoven also delivered "Mo Reala," as heard on his 2018 album Trapholizay.
