10 songs you need in your life this week
A guide to the tracks we love right now. In no particular order.
Each week The FADER staff rounds up the songs we can't stop playing. Here they are, in no particular order.
Ariana Grande, "thank u, next"
Ariana Grande's cushy new single has already given us so much: memes, aspirational emotional growth, and still, a smash hit! Can't wait for her to cure the world next.
El Alfa f. Cardi B, "Mi Mami"
Yes, El Alfa and Cardi B's insane new collab IS them just saying "I am your papi, and you are my mami" a hundred times — and it slaps! Shamelessly get down to it this weekend.
Metro Boomin, 21 Savage, "10 Freaky Girls"
Everyone's talking about 21 Savage's whispering on Metro Boomin's new album, but no one's mentioned how his verse on "10 Freaky Girls" bumps! Impressively, he mentions 1. Spongebob, 2. Harriet Tubman, and 3. "vajay-jay" all in one song.
Carly Rae Jepson, "Party For One"
Carly Rae Jepson knows how to make a pop hit. I know this because of the way "Party For One" pleasurably builds, but also because when the bridge hits and rhythm shifts, it is especially, satisfying.
Vince Staples, "FUN!"
Vince Staples' "FUN!" music video merges sharp social commentary, effervescent Kenny Beats production, and clever editing work, all into one cohesive package. Watch until the end for a surprise.
Slipknot, "All Out Life"
For all my hardcore fans out there, Slipknot's back with an excellent, angry single that seems to match the general vibe of the world right now. "I CHALLENGE YOU TO ALL OUT FUCKING LIFE"- type mood.
Chief Keef, "Just What It Be Like"
It must really be a testament to Chief Keef's skill if "Just What It Be Like" sounds like he recorded it while playing GTA V with the volume all the way up — and it still rocks.
Yung Lean, "bender++girlfriend"
Our Yung Lean correspondent, Duncan, enjoys "bender++girlfriend" the best off the Swedish sad-rapper's new project Poison Ivy. It's a tender, softer side of Lean, so I must say I agree.
Rosalía, "BAGDAD"
A Spanish Justin Timberlake interpolation and a twinkling, Christmas-sounding hook makes "BAGDAD" one of the more transcendent cuts on Rosalía's new album. It blew my mind the first time I heard it.
Sorry, "Starstruck"
London rock group Sorry dropped an Omegle-esque music video a couple days ago for their darkly alluring new single "Starstruck." It's kind of seedy, kind of voyeuristic, and odd enough to be very addictive.
