Sir Babygirl rules, and here’s the proof
Queer pop bangers with a few primal screams thrown in for good measure.
Who are they?
Name: Kelsie Hogue a.k.a. Sir Babygirl
Style: Queer pop bangers with a few primal screams thrown in for good measure.
Location: Brooklyn, NY via Hanover, New Hampshire
Why should I listen?
Not to be confused with the other queer pop singer with a regal-sounding name, Sir Babygirl is one of my favorite new artists. She crafts stupidly catchy songs about crushes, mostly. Lucky for us, that’s a deep well! The euphoria of flirting with a new person, the neurotic nature of texting someone you just wanna make out with, that aching feeling when it doesn’t work out. Sir Babygirl has songs about it all. Well, actually, she only has two songs. But those two songs are really fucking good. Both of them, “Heels” and “Flirting With Her,” go on these wild sonic journeys that build to these insane, primal screams from Hogue. Sometimes it do indeed be like that.
Crush on Me, her debut album, is coming out the day after Valentine’s Day (fitting!) and is one of my most anticipated releases of 2019. If the two lead singles are any indication, we’ll be treated to lots of thrash-alone-in-your-room songs with lines that hit me as hard as “Lights shine brighter when there's tears in your eyes/I guess that's a nice surprise” or “Flirting with her is like losing your key/What the fuck is going on with me?” I’m no broker, but I’m buying a lot of Sir Babygirl stock, I think it’ll pay out nicely.
Where should I start?
